11/14 Meeting!
On 11/14, we gathered canned food for Interfaith Food Shuttle, and we talked about Volkstrauertag, or the National Day of Mourning. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkstrauertag) We watched a few videos about it, and then we talked a bit about St. Martin's Day. :)

Oktoberfest!
On Friday, September 26, we had our annual Oktoberfest meeting, with root beer, cake, pretzels, and various other food items. The room was decorated in blue and white, the colors of Oktoberfest, and we watched videos of Oktoberfest in Germany and listened to German music. (I will post pictures when I get them :)

Our First 2014-2015 Meeting!
We had our first meeting on Friday, Sept 12.
We introduced this year's officers, and then we made Schultüte. (see last year's post on Schultüte for more info on the German tradition: http://enloedeutschverein.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html). We decorated pieces of construction paper, rolled them into cones, and filled them with candy! Here are some pictures:

We're finally ordering the T-shirts for this year's German club! They're going to be black, and you can scroll down to see the design Herr Kandah posted. If you want to buy one, contact Herr Kandah ASAP with your name and shirt size.

Today's Meeting
Hallo!
We just had our most recent German Club meeting, where we played a couple of games and discussed shirts for this year. The graphic design department at Enloe is going to make the T-shirts for us, and they'll probably be around $10-12. If you want to see the T-shirt design, scroll down to the post that Herr Kandah uploaded a while ago. The shirts will be black.
Our next meeting will be on Friday, 4/25, two weeks from today. We hope to see everyone there!

Altes T-Shirt Design . . . . . was meint ihr denn?
Guten Tag! First, thanks Jill for updating our website! And thanks everyone for making German Club this year so far a great success!
The fundraiser is underway. Take care of your money as you sell the popcorn. You might want to have your parents write a check in exchange for any cash you collect during the two weeks of the fundraiser. December 3, a Tuesday, is when I need to collect your money and sales order forms. Carefully transfer your orders onto the order form, and count your money before submitting it all! Have fun and good luck!
Last year's t-shirt design is a simple red t-shirt with the front, in the upper left side this:
And on the back a word cloud of Goethe's Faust, plus a quote by the great German. The quote, a famous one, is „Es irrt der Mensch, solang er strebt." It means, "Man makes mistakes as long as he strives." Here is the word cloud graphic:
What do you think? A t-shirt's costs depends on the number we sell and other associated costs. I thought I'd try for Body Billboards, a local Durham, NC company. Or quite possibly Mr. Busch, an Enloe teacher of graphic design......

11/15 Meeting
Guten Tag!
Our last meeting was last Friday, 11/15. We celebrated Sankt Martinstag, which is known in English as the Feast of Saint Martin. If you would like to know more about Saint Martin and his life, here's the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin's_Day.
After that, we listened to some popular Saint Martin's Day songs, like „Ich geh' mit meiner Laterne” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCL78fdsl6Y). After singing along, we got quite off-topic and ventured into other parts of YouTube.
Herr Kandah also talked about selling popcorn to raise money for our club this year. If you want more information, you can ask him about it sometime this week.
