Altes T-Shirt Design . . . . . was meint ihr denn?

Guten Tag! First, thanks Jill for updating our website! And thanks everyone for making German Club this year so far a great success!

The fundraiser is underway. Take care of your money as you sell the popcorn. You might want to have your parents write a check in exchange for any cash you collect during the two weeks of the fundraiser. December 3, a Tuesday, is when I need to collect your money and sales order forms. Carefully transfer your orders onto the order form, and count your money before submitting it all! Have fun and good luck!

Last year's t-shirt design is a simple red t-shirt with the front, in the upper left side this:

And on the back a word cloud of Goethe's Faust, plus a quote by the great German. The quote, a famous one, is „Es irrt der Mensch, solang er strebt." It means, "Man makes mistakes as long as he strives." Here is the word cloud graphic:

What do you think? A t-shirt's costs depends on the number we sell and other associated costs. I thought I'd try for Body Billboards, a local Durham, NC company. Or quite possibly Mr. Busch, an Enloe teacher of graphic design......

11/15 Meeting

Guten Tag!

Our last meeting was last Friday, 11/15. We celebrated Sankt Martinstag, which is known in English as the Feast of Saint Martin. If you would like to know more about Saint Martin and his life, here's the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin's_Day.
A Sankt Martingstag Parade
After that, we listened to some popular Saint Martin's Day songs, like „Ich geh' mit meiner Laterne” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCL78fdsl6Y). After singing along, we got quite off-topic and ventured into other parts of YouTube.

Herr Kandah also talked about selling popcorn to raise money for our club this year. If you want more information, you can ask him about it sometime this week.

Also, we discussed the T-shirt design for this year. If you have a design, please email it to me (Jill Jones) at ncjkj13@gmail.com. Thanks!

Our next meeting will be Friday, 12/6. We'll be making our annual gingerbread houses, so be sure to put it on your calendar!

Don't forget to bring your dues!

Meeting: 10/25

Guten Abend!

Just a reminder that we'll be having our next German Club meeting on Friday, 10/25. Since Halloween is just around the corner, we'll be reading some Brothers Grimm folk tales to get in the spirit. We hope to see everyone there!

Club Fair

Hallo!

We will be having our next meeting am Freitag, 4.10.2013. However, we will NOT be meeting in Herr Kandah's room. Our meeting will held near our booth at the Club Fair, which will be located in the "middle lot," in between the bus loop and the faculty parking lot. This lot is the entrance half closest to the front lobby. Club Fair will be after the pep rally and will go from about 3:45 - 5:00.

We hope to see everyone there!

Das ist alles.

German Club 2013-2014

Welcome to the 2013-2014 German Club!

The officers for this year are:
Sarah Wall, President
Justin Magin, Vice President
Kate Nelson, Secretary
Melanie Nevins, Treasurer
Jill Jones, Historian

We had our first meeting yesterday, 9/13. We talked about some ideas for future meetings and then spent the rest of our time making Schultüte, or school cones. These cones are given to German children on their first day of first grade, and they're filled by their parents, grandparents, or godparents with little school supplies, candy, and toys. As it was our first meeting, we felt that it was appropriate to celebrate this tradition… even if we aren't in first grade anymore! Below are some pictures of various Schultüte.

Our next meeting will be Friday, 10/4. Please remember to bring your $1 due (with a recommended - but not mandatory - $4 donation)! If you would like to bring any food, please feel free to do so. We hope to see you there!
